Operation Crossroads was a series of nuclear weapon tests conducted at Bikini Atoll in the summer of 1946. Able was an air detonation of an atomic device; Baker was underwater. The purpose of the tests was to determine the effect of the atomic bomb against various types of Naval vessels.
