Catalog Number 02.25.180
Object Name Postcard
Scope & Content The front of the postcard reads: Nuclear Bomb. By July 1945 a bomb team working at Los Alamos under Robert Oppenheimer were ready for their first test. As the fireball blazed over the New Mexico desert, a line from the Bhagavad Gita of the Hindus flashed through Oppenheimer's mind: 'If the radiance of a thousand suns were to burst into the sky, that would be like the splendor of the mighty one.' And: " I am become death, the shatterer of worlds.'
